"Wallpaper makes a statement," said Danny Russo, an award-winning interior designer and social media influencer who owns Daniel Russo Home in Columbus, Ohio. "All of our clients are asking for wall coverings in some way shape or form," Russo said. "It’s a trend that’s picking up a ton of steam."

“After 20 years of running my own business as an independent interior designer, I’ve not only come into my brand but built it and expanded it into something that’s recognizable in the industry,” said Russo. “I’m known to break the rules, take risks and push boundaries in my designs, all while remaining timeless.”

“This year reinforced for me the idea that design can be affordable and accessible to anyone regardless of price point,” said Russo. “Next year, I will continue to educate existing and potential clients on the design process and inform them that anything is truly possible.”

“We know all of the furniture that is available, whether its coming from a discount store or a high-end store. Our clients give us a budget, and our job is to make that budget work as far as possible,” says Russo.

Danny Russo understands the balance between incorporating upcoming trends and a timeless perspective. Russo’s compositions strike the perfect chord: his work is risky, yet safe enough to stand the test of time while remaining fresh, bespoke and innovative.

“I’m not afraid to break the rules or take risks. Distinctive design is about pushing boundaries – within balance. I approach my clients’ design projects by, first and foremost, listening to their thoughts and creating a plan that they’re comfortable with. I go a step further by making adjustments in a space where only interior designers know where to look.”

Born and raised in Youngstown, I’ve seen and felt the economic pressures of my hometown from family and friends as I grew up. As a young interior designer learning the industry, I, along with so many others, sought refuge for opportunity outside of Youngstown. What I’ve seen in my travels back to my hometown is the revitalization of the Valley and a shift in the interior design industry as a whole, using HomeGoods as a prime example.

Russo used a mix of the client's existing items, which includes vintage finds and heirlooms, and custom furniture to blend old and new.

"It takes a designer to pull this type of aesthetic together, otherwise it could end up looking like a hot mess real quick," Russo tells Axios.

Black walls can make a room feel larger, Russo feels, and he has incorporated the technique throughout the condo by installing grass cloth and vinyl wallpaper. There is a distinction of light and dark throughout the space; the foyer’s gray walls lead to the guest bathroom. Russo envisioned an ethereal aesthetic to create a sense of calm and relaxation for guests. The bathroom is reminiscent of visiting a spa.
